Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are you worried about being labelled with a mental health problem, because you want to deal with an issue that is affecting your mental health?

You will be pleased to know that many people often seek help from a counsellor, this does not necessarily mean that they have a mental health problem.

There is a common misconception about seeking help to deal with an emotional or mental health issue. Often times people are afraid to get the help they need and deserve, to relieve a lot of emotional distress and anguish, because of common myths and stigmas. They worry too much about what other people think.

In the same way that you would go to your doctor to get medical advice and attention for any health problems, the same thing applies to getting help for mental and emotional problems. At Blue Diamond Wellbeing we want to reassure you that our service provides vital help and support when you need it most, to deal with many issues affecting your emotional health and mental wellbeing.

  • Do you doubt that psychotherapy/counselling will work for you, in case it makes you feel worse?

You will be relieved to know that we often help people to get a balanced, helpful view of themselves in counselling.

At BDW we will only help you to deal with issues that you want to address, but we recognise that many people often feel afraid to tell someone about their problems and how it is affecting them. It is a brave step to look for the help that you need, but we realise that you are wondering if this will make you feel better or worse as you open up to someone confidentially. By doing so, this may well bring up some feelings and issues from the past which you didn’t expect.

Dealing with issues from the past is not necessarily a bad thing, because you will have the opportunity to address the current issues that is affecting your life today and any past unresolved issues that you did not deal with. What you may find is that those past issues had become a stumbling block or hindrance in your life, so this could now be the right time to face them and manage your feelings in a safe, supportive and non judgemental environment.

Once you allow yourself to deal with past issues, you will soon start to feel much better and understood. You will also learn new skills and strategies for dealing with unhealthy feelings/emotions, distorted thinking and unhelpful behaviours at the same time.

  • Are you concerned about how therapy/counselling may affect your personal and professional relationships?

We will work with you on your present issues and provide some great tips on how to manage your personal relationships.

Many people are not sure that entering into counselling, may affect their ability to maintain good relations with their partner, children, family members, friends or work colleagues. It is understandable to feel a little concern as they may not always fully realise the benefits of getting good counselling help and support.

Depending on your circumstances, it is generally a good idea to let your family and friends know that you have been going through some difficult feelings and emotions and need to speak to someone about this and that you would like their support in doing so. This will enable your partner or family members and friends to give you the space you need to have your counselling.

In the workplace, most reputable employers will have an Occupational Health Department which is there for all employees to access whenever they are feeling especially stressed, anxious or depressed, particularly about work related issues. Workplaces have a duty of care to provide mental wellbeing support to their staff, as emotional and mental health problems may impact an individual’s performance and attendance at work.

Many workplaces encourage staff to seek the help they need either through them or privately. There are many instances where individuals prefer to seek private therapy/counselling to maintain their own confidentiality from the workplace and to avoid having information being placed on their personnel file.  But the most important step is to get the help you need to deal with issues affecting your mental and emotional health. You will soon feel some relief that there is a place for you to talk.

If you want that private space away from your workplace, Blue Diamond Wellbeing is just the service you need, as we truly understand work stress and pressures. Or the way in which personal issues can affect your work. So don't be afraid to reach out to us. You don't have to be the expert, or the professional, or the parent, you just need to be you.

  • Are you not sure where to start or whether or not you should proceed with therapy/counselling?

At Blue Diamond Wellbeing, we encourage you to contact us to book in your no obligation, free complimentary 20 minute zoom consultation.

You have probably been feeling a little nervous about going forward to starting counselling after your consultation. For e.g. not being sure if this may be too difficult for you, or if the timing is not right. Or you may not really want to deal with past issues, so you’re thinking, “why not leave things alone”.

At Blue Diamond Wellbeing we offer a No Obligation, Free/complimentary 20 minute consultation with one of our therapists. This will be a great opportunity for you just to speak with someone without having to commit to going forward.

In this consultation you will meet one of our qualified and experienced therapists, who will put you at ease and ask you a few questions about the problems that you are hoping to deal with. They will walk you through this gentle process and listen to your issues carefully and encourage any questions from you. We understand that getting help for mental and emotional problems will often bring up issues, both past and present. But we are confident that with the right help, you will get the relief that you need, in a safe supportive, non-judgemental environment.

The therapist/counsellor will explain how the service may work for you, what to expect from counselling, how many sessions, the cost of therapy/counselling, the type of counselling and if this will suit you or not. They will also explain the overall benefits of counselling for your mental and emotional health.

In addition, our combined personalised spa treatments are only accessed once counselling is formally booked with us. We very much focus on the mind and body working together to greatly improve your overall wellbeing.   The choice is always yours and we may also decide that our service may not be quite right for you, so it is important that you make the right decision moving forward. Our aim is to provide the service that is right for you.

If you check through our website, in the section What We Provide, you will easily find a list of common conditions that we work with. • Ever wondered whether or not therapy/counselling can guarantee to help you?

It is well researched that talking Therapies are now one of the most effective ways to get help with emotional and mental health issues.

If like most people, you are generally able to deal with most problems yourself, or with family and friends, that’s great. However, there are some issues or situations that you may be still struggling with, which can become especially difficult to manage. You may not always have the coping skills to deal with them and if left unresolved for too long, this will negatively affect your emotional health, mental wellbeing and quality of life.

We cannot say that we can absolutely guarantee that psychotherapy/counselling will work for you, as everyone is very different and will also respond differently. You may also have a particular view and past experience of therapy and you may not know what will work for you, unless you try it. However, we can guarantee, that all our psychotherapists/counsellors are fully qualified and experienced to deal with a wide range of emotional and mental health issues, including distorted thinking and limiting beliefs.

If you would like to go forward with counselling, we will be happy to help. But it is also important to recognise that any long term progress you make, must come from your commitment and active participation to your progress in the therapy sessions. This will be your guarantee to helping yourself, but we will be right there with you.
